Great Truth 1 — One God

There Is One God

There is One God beyond humanity's names and religious associations.

Human beings have referred to the Divine in many ways across history, cultures, languages, and generations. But names do not create God. Religions do not create God. Human interpretations do not create God. Before humanity named God — there was God.

God Is the Beginning

God existed before human religions, sacred books, denominations, nations, cultures, borders, languages, traditions, labels, and interpretations. The Beginning belongs to no religious institution.

God Is Spirit

We exist within a reality that includes both the spiritual and the physical. God is Spirit and transcends physical limitation, geography, ethnicity, nationality, institutional religion, and human labels.

God Is Creator

God is the ultimate Source responsible for existence and life — Creator of the spiritual and physical dimensions and the diverse forms of life within creation.

God Is Sustainer

God did not merely initiate existence. Life continues through systems, resources, laws, possibilities, and realities beyond our individual power. Understanding God as Sustainer should produce gratitude rather than entitlement.

God Is Judge

Our lives matter. Our thoughts, motives, attitudes, words, decisions, behaviors, treatment of others, and use of our lives have consequences. God judges beyond our religious and social labels.

God Is Father

Because humanity comes from one ultimate Source, we belong to one human family. Different labels do not make one group more human or more legitimate than another.

God Is the God of Good

We live in a reality where good and evil exist, and God represents ultimate good. Knowing God must move us toward goodness, love, justice, truth, wisdom, compassion, responsibility, peace, service, and integrity. Understanding God should make us better humans.

Questions for reflection

  • Who was God before humanity named Him?
  • How much of what I believe about God came from tradition rather than truth?
  • If God is the God of good, what should knowing God produce in me?
